KARACHI: A high level meeting chaired by Additional IG Karachi Ghulam Qadir Thebo held here on Thursday reviewed the security of Karachi airport and surrounding areas.

A statement issued here said that Sindh Rangers’ Lieutenant Colonel Zahid and ASF’s representatives Muhammad Aslam Pervaiz and Muhammad Muneer participated in the meeting.

Additional IG Karachi directed the police to make the old airport’s security strong like Jinnah Terminal’s, open the old airport road for all vehicles including rickshaw  and taxi and take all possible security measures and initiate combined patrolling by police and ASF.

He also said police and special branch should identify the illegally constructed areas around the airport. The AIG said retired army personnel be deployed at Karachi airport as security guards for strengthening the airport security.

He also called for scrutiny and verification of documents of private guards’ deployed at the airport through the special branch. The Additional IGP advised to strengthen the security of airport exit points. He said ASF should conduct regular maintenance and upgrading of
metal/weapon detector, walk-through gates and other security instruments in its use.
