A divergent trend was seen on the local currency market on Tuesday as the rupee played both sides against the dollar in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee gave up weakness, recovering four-paisa in terms of the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 100.75 and Rs 100.78 respectively, they said.
INTERANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee shed 10-paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 101.20 and Rs 101.40 respectively. It did not move any side versus the euro for buying and selling at Rs 117.00 and Rs 117.25, they said.
In the second Asian trade, short-covering helped lift the dollar to a one-week high against the yen after China growth data was not as bad as many feared, while the euro remained under pressure ahead of possible easing steps by the European Central Bank as early as this week.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 61.86, the greenback was at 3.6000 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was available at 6.2159 in relation to Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged amid sluggish trading trend on the local currency market on Tuesday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar commenced trading at its overnight closing of Rs 101.25 and Rs 101.50 as its buying and selling rate, respectively. The dollar did not observe any change in its value during the day, as opening rates continued to prevail throughout the day, the dealers said.
However, the rupee maintained upward slide for another day and was appreciated against the pound sterling. The pound was traded at Rs 152.25 and Rs 152.50 on buying and selling counter compared with Monday closing of Rs 152.75 and Rs 153.00, respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee gained strength against the dollar on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Tuesday. The dollar opened at Rs 100.75 (buying) and Rs 101 (selling) against last rate of Rs 101 (buying) and Rs 101.25 (selling). It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 100.75 (buying) and Rs 101 (selling). Pound Sterling opened at Rs 152 (buying) and Rs 153 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 152 (buying) and Rs 153 (selling).
