LARKANA: To create awareness about Polio, a mass awareness walk was organised here on Friday by the District Health Department Larkana, in collaboration with WHO and UNICEF, in connection with the three- day national campaign for the eradication of Polio.
The campaign will be conducted from January 19 to 21, 2015.
The anti Polio walk was led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Larkana Saifullah Abro and District Health Officer Dr. Khalilullah Shaikh.
The walk was largely attended among others by Dr. Abdul Fateh Bughio, Dr. Abdul Sattar Shaikh, Dr Inyatullah Kandhro, Dr. Rabnawaz Samoo, Dr. Sher Muhammad Kangho, representatives of WHO, UNICEF, NGOs, social workers, doctors, teachers, students, scouts and prominent citizens.
The walk started from Old DHO Office near Soekarno Memorial Tower here and concluded in front of Press Club Larkana.
The participants were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans against polio and inviting the people to vaccinate their youngsters to avoid polio disease.
Speaking on the occasion ADC Larkana Saifullah Abro has said that the purpose of the Anti-Polio Walk was to create awareness among the people.
He appealed to the people of Larkana district to cooperate with the polio teams by administrating the Anti-Polio drops to their children aged 0-5 years and save the new generation from this dangerous disease.
He urged the health authorities not to miss even a single child from administrating the Anti-Polio drops especially in Katcha, remote and rural areas of the district.
During the three day immunisation campaign the teams of vaccinators,would administer OPV on door to door basis.
