Pervaiz asks Imran to accept election result after verdicts of tribunals against PTI candidates

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid here on Saturday urged Imran Khan to accept the results of general election 2013, after verdicts of election tribunals against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) candidates.

Addressing a press conference along with State Minister Anusha Rehman and MNA Daniyal Aziz, he said Imran Khan should stop politics of protest after paying his electricity bills for Bani Gala residence and verdict of election tribunal for NA-122 Lahore, handed down by Justice Kazim, who was trusted by the PTI leader.

The minister said Imran Khan closed one of the doors of his protest politics by paying his electricity bills.

People went through stress due to the lies spread about fairness of elections, he said adding local commission which recounted votes in NA-122 had sent its report to the election tribunal and votes of Ayaz Sadiq increased and those of Imran Khan decreased in the recounting.

The minister said Imran Khan had been demanding that four constituencies should be opened despite the fact that these were open all along and election tribunals continued their proceedings and earlier gave verdicts against PTI in three of them.

The proceedings were continuing in the fourth constituency NA-122 and its verdict had also been announced, he noted.

The minister said petition of Imran Khan in NA-122 did not contain any allegation which he leveled while standing on the shipping container.

The allegations did not include illegal printing from Urdu Bazaar or about role of former chief justice, speech of Nawaz Sharif on election day or any other accusation, he added.

He said after opening up of the four constituencies lies of Imran Khan had been exposed.

Pervaiz Rashid said the representative of PTI Shoib Siddiqui, PML-N representative and Election Commission officer agreed on the rules for counting of a valid vote in NA-122 constituency.

He said all demands of Imran Khan regarding opening of constituencies and counting of votes were accepted and the election tribunals in four constituencies completed their proceedings and gave verdicts against pleas of PTI candidates.

He said people of Pakistan and political parties including PML-N were eagerly waiting for the decision of election tribunal for NA-122.

“It was our need and demand that this verdict should come as early as possible.”

He said Pakistan Muslim League N believed that general election 2013 was free, fair and transparent, but continuously a smokescreen was created by PTI about genuineness of polls.

The minister said Pakistan Election Commission had set parameters to declare a vote valid.

According to these parameters, any ballot paper which has any mark, or is without signature of presiding officer, or if anything is written on it, or it does not contain stamp on the symbol in prescribed space, is considered an invalid vote.

He said PTI did not want to include its allegations made from the container, in the Terms of Reference (TORs) discussed by its team on the negotiating table for the formation of Judicial Commission.

“But we are still ready to make allegations which Imran Khan leveled on the container, part of the TORs for the judicial commission.”

He said it was easy for PTI to hold media trial but it would not be possible for it to prove its allegations in the court.

He remarked, “After announcement of verdicts of election tribunals for four constituencies, whether there is any need for a judicial commission.”
