Pak to participate in NAM Ministerial Conference to be held in Iran

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Science and Technology and Defence Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain said Pakistan would participate in Non Align Movements (NAM) members countries’conference on Science and Technology.

H.E, Alireza Hagighiain, the Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Iran invited the Federal Minister for the conference to be held in Tehran from February 23rd to 24th in a call on meeting here on Friday.

Federal Secretary for Science and Technology and Defence Production, Kamran Ali Qureshi was also present in the meeting, said a news release.

The Federal Minister said Pakistan and Iran were great neighbors and both countries enjoy fraternal ties. The Ambassador stated that the bilateral relations between the two countries have further improved with the visit of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to Iran during 2013.

He said the scientific and technological cooperation between the two brotherly countries will be further strengthened by the Minister’s visit to Tehran.

The Minister thanked the Ambassador for the invite and further mentioned that the two countries should immediately renew and revive the Programme of Cooperation that was signed for the period of 2007-2009 between the two countries so that the areas of cooperation defined in the Programme could be pursued and effectively implemented.

The Federal Secretary, while appreciative of the Iranian advancement in the field of Technology Parks proposed that Iran might send a delegation of experts to Pakistan who can mentor and guide the Pakistani officials for the proficient establishment of Technology Parks.

He further mentioned that Pakistan would like to benefit from the expertise of Iranian scientists in the field of Nanotechnology.

The Ambassador agreed with the proposals and ensured that Iran will expedite the follow-up of the Programme of Cooperation for enhancing collaboration in the desired areas.
