Bulls prevailed on the money market on Monday as the rupee improved versus the dollar and euro in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee gained sharply against the dollar, picking up 50-paisa for buying and selling at Rs 101.07 and Rs 101.12 respectively, they said.
INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee rose by 20-paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 101.30 and Rs 101.50 respectively. It also gained 75-paisa against the euro for buying and selling at Rs 124.25 and Rs 124.50 respectively, they said.
In the first Asian trade, the dollar set a fresh seven-year high against the yen after surprisingly robust US jobs data bolstered the view that the Federal Reserve could raise interest rates sooner than expected.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 61.91, the greenback was at 3.5020 versus the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was available at 6.1554 in terms of the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee-dollar parity stayed unchanged amid sluggish activity on the local currency market on Monday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar commenced trading at its last week closing of Rs 101.60 and Rs 101.85 as its buying and selling rates, respectively. The dollar observed marginal fluctuation in its value during the day’s trading but at it was ended at opening level, the dealers said.
Similarly, the rupee showed stability and remained unchanged against the pound sterling. The pound was traded at its last Saturday closing of Rs 158.25 and Rs 158.50 on buying and selling counter, respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained firm against the dollar on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Monday.
The dollar opened at Rs 102.30 (buying) and Rs 102.40 (selling) against same overnight rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 102.30 (buying) and Rs 102.40 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 159 (buying) and Rs 160 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 159 (buying) and Rs 160 (selling).
