PESHAWAR: On the call of 16/12 Action Forum Peshawar, a joint forum of civil society organizations here Wednesday staged demonstration in different squares and roads of the City as mark of protest against the school massacre.
Burning old tyres and blocking traffic flow at various places, the demonstrators demanded of the Government to unmask the mastermind of this barbaric incident.
The activists of civil society organizations burnt tyres at Fridus Chowk, Hashtnagri on GT Road and Qayyum Stadium Chowk in cantonment and blocked the traffic.
They were holding placards and banners inscribed with different slogans condemning the brutal attack on the innocent students of Army Public School on December 16 last.
In morning the traffic was thin on roads and most of the shopkeepers closed their shops. Due to scarcity of public transport, the people especially the employees faced great difficulties in reaching their respective offices. The patients also suffered in reaching hospitals in time.
The enraged protestors also scuffled with journalists, who were coming to cast their votes in the annual elections of Peshawar Press Club (PPC) being held today, injuring two journalists including a cameraman of a private TV Channel Kamran.
It may be recalled that the 16/12 Action Forum Peshawar had given shutter down and wheel jam strike for Wednesday (Dec 31) as mark of protest against deadly terror attack on innocent students of army public school and demanded that bio-data of killed terrorists should be shared with the nation and strict punishment to their perpetrators and mastermind be ensured.
Organizers of 16/12 Action Forum Preshawar, Sana Ejaz, Gul Nawaz Memon and Luqman Afridi told a news conference the other day that this strike was being staged to condemn the killing of innocent students of APS in a strongest possible manner and to press the govrnment to bring the mastermind of the APS attack to justice.
They said strike was being observed to express solidarity and sympathies with victims’ families.
They said it was the prime responsibility of the Govrnment and the law enforcement agencies to provide protection and security to people.
They demanded of the Government to immediately focus on mental and psychological treatment of surviving students of the tragedy and parents of the victims. They were of the view that the pictures and complete bio date of the killed terrorists should be made public that would help expose the terrorist network.
