VEHARI: Former prime minister and PPP central leader Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said on Monday that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had supported military courts owing to specific circumstances of the country.
He said that political and military leadership had jointly decided to eliminate terrorism from the country.
Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani expressed these views while talking to journalists at the residence of PPP leader Nawab Khurrum Fareed Khan in Sharifabad.
He said that former president Asif Ali Zardari had not opposed speedy courts but he (Zardari) stressed that courts should remain within its given mandate.
He said the PML(N) government should honor its pledges made with the masses during its election campaign in last general election.
He said that PPP was playing its role as responsible opposition, adding the government was making right decisions in such testing time. Gilani maintained that there were no chance of mid-term elections and added that the government could complete its constitutional tenure on basis of its performance.
He said that Iran gas pipeline project was historical agreement and the government could overcome gas crisis by completing other remaining work.
He claimed that the PPP would get public mandate in next general election due to its better democratic role.
