Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has constituted a committee to oversee implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) approved by an All-Party Conference (APC) of parliamentary leaders for countering the challenge of terrorism.
A meeting presided over by Prime Minister on Friday constituted a committee headed by Prime Minister to oversee the implementation of NAP. An official said that PM is heading the committee himself to send a message from the top level on the profundity of the issue. An official on condition of anonymity stated: “the Prime Minister is heading the committee to convey a message from the top level that decisions taken by the APC against terrorism would be implemented in letter and spirit”.
The official added that the first meeting of the committee has been convened today (Saturday) to discuss a modus operandi of judicial matters, legislation, media, etc. The meeting would also discuss the required legal amendments for the establishment of special courts for speedy trial of the terrorists. Sources said that contours of the constitutional amendments required for special courts would be known in the next few days. The committee headed by the Prime Minister will include Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Minister for Information Pervaiz Rashid, Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif, and Minister for Planning Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal as well as Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz as members.
Nawaz Sharif said he himself will supervise the process of implementation of the plan to ensure early and effective implementation of the plan. The Prime Minister added that he would visit the provinces to get update on implementation of NAP. He said the Peshawar tragedy would remain in focus of the government until the last terrorist was eliminated from the country.
Nawaz further stated that the Zarb-e-Azb operation against the enemy in the tribal areas and those hiding in the cities is an important turn in the national history. He urged the law-enforcing agencies to play their vital role in the eradication of terrorism. The Prime Minister, who in a televised address to the nation after the conclusion of APC of Parliamentary leaders and approval of NAP vowed to spearhead war against terrorism, stated that a counter-terrorism force would be deployed in the country in this regard.
The Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Finance and the State Bank to ensure the blockade of terrorist financing.
