ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday said that every citizen of the country, irrespective of his caste, sect or faith, would be protected.
“No cause is holier than protecting the life and property of every citizen of Pakistan,” he said while chairing a meeting on counter-terrorism here at the Prime Minister House.
Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar, Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, DG ISI, DG Military Operations, DG MI and DG ISPR attended the meeting which reviewed progress on operation Zarb-e-Azb going on in North Waziristan and Khyber agencies and discussed modalities of the national action plan on counter-terrorism and extremism.
The meeting expressed the resolve to ensure swift and effective implementation of the approved action plan.
Various short term and medium term steps required to be taken for eliminating terror networks in every nook and corner of the country also came under discussion.
The Prime Minister said that the operation Zarb-e-Azb would continue till the last terrorist was eliminated. He said no distinction would be made between those who had committed the acts of terror and those who harbored, facilitated and financed them.
He stressed on the need for national unity to defeat the terrorist and extremist ideology, which, he said, would be defeated at all costs.
He said sacrifices given by the people of Pakistan, including the security forces, were un-paralleled in this war and the blood of martyrs of would not go in vain.
The Prime Minister said, “We cannot forget or forgive the atrocities committed by these barbarians in Peshawar, Quetta and Wagha.”
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has summoned a meeting of the parliamentary leaders on Wednesday at 11 am to finalize the National Action Plan on Counter-Terrorism measures.
According to a Prime Minister House official, the meeting would deliberate on the suggestions put forward for an effective course of action against terrorism.
The meeting of the parliamentary committee was summoned in the wake of the Peshawar school tragedy in which over 140 innocent lives were lost.
The Prime Minister earlier canceled all his appointments Tuesday to focus on ways to tackle the issue of terrorism and extremism and to purge the country of this scourges.
The Prime Minister in this regard held meetings with his Cabinet to study in detail the possible measures that can be taken to eliminate the threat.
It was unanimously decided that effective and immediate measures would be taken for the protection of lives and property of the people of Pakistan, the official said.
The Prime Minister during his meetings addressed the issue of terrorism and its root causes.
