KARACHI: The Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A.) and his companions was observed on Saturday in Karachi amid strict security.
The main mourning procession was taken out from Nishtar Park after Namaz-e-Zohrain which after passing through its traditional route ended peacefully at Imambargah Husainia Iranian Kharadar.
Earlier in the day, a Majlis was held at Nishtar Park which was addressed by Allama Talib Johri.
Strict security arrangements were made for the day, as patrolling, picketing and snap checking had been intensified by the law enforcement agencies to prevent any untoward incident. The sweeping of the procession route was also conducted by the bomb disposal squad.
Besides, police and Rangers personnel were deployed along the route and other parts of the city. Special stickers were issued to the vehicles for the participation in the processions. Parking was not allowed along the procession route or in nearby lanes. Medical camps and Sabils were also set up by various welfare organizations.
The pillion riding on motorbikes was banned in the city since Friday night as part of security arrangements for Chehlum.
Special traffic arrangements were also made, and the vehicular traffic was diverted to alternate routes to minimize inconvenience to motorists.
