Political parties organize grand tribal jirga for IDPs

ISLAMABAD: Political parties on Saturday organized a grand tribal Jirga to discuss the problems being faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs) of North Waziristan Agency.

Awami National Party (ANP) President Asfandyar Wali Khan, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman, chief of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Haider Abbas Rizvi and Qaumi Wattan Party (QWP) chairman Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao attended the grand jirga and discussed issues faced by over a million IDPs camped in different cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A large number of tribal elders and other relevant people attended the jirga and highlighted the problems being faced by them.

The speakers, addressing participants of Grand Jirga said that all the stakeholders need to play their role for the rehabilitation of IDPs.

ANP President Asfandyar Wali Khan said that only elders of tribal agencies can bring peace to their areas.

He said that Jirga would continue its efforts for implementation of Jirga recommendations, adding, “We have to achieve our goals.”

Maulana Fazalur Rehman expressed solidarity with the IDPs and demanded resolution of their problems.

He said IDPs have rendered sacrifices for the sake of national security by leaving their homes, adding it should be our responsibility to ensure that IDPs return home as soon as possible.

MQM leader Haider Abbas Rizvi addressing at Jirga said that soon after displacement of IDPs, his party established a relief camp for them in Bannu.

He said more than one million IDPs are going through difficult times.
