ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Saturday issued directions for maintaining high level of alertness during the next few days culminating in Ashura.
In a statement issued here, he said that the Ministry of Interior has deployed 32,695 army troops and civil armed forces including Rangers, Frontier Corps and Frontier Constabulary across 54 districts of the country to assist the provincial governments in maintaining law and order during the Moharram days.
In addition to that, 12 helicopters have also been stationed at various areas to extend air support cover throughout the country, whereas cellular services may also be jammed for limited timings only at selective sensitive locations for 9th and 10th of Moharram.
He further stated that all Moharram related activities are being monitored from the control room of ministry of interior round the clock and we are in continuous contact with the provinces to ensure maximum protection for the security of mourners and general public.
For this purpose, the ministry is also in coordination with the intelligence agencies and information regarding threats to any specific area is being relayed forthwith for timely action to prevent any untoward activity, he maintained.
