Army chief General Raheel Sharif received Afghan President Ashraf Ghani upon his arrival at GHQ, where the visiting President was presented a guard of honour. On the occasion, the Afghan President lauded Pakistan’s role in combating terrorism, according to the ISPR.
On the occasion, President Ghani said that Afghanistan wants enhancement of co-operation with the neighbouring country in border management and training in the field of defence. He vowed that co-operation between neighbouring countries would continue for countering militancy in the region. He maintained that Afghanistan sought better defence ties with Pakistan.
The Afghan President laid a floral wreath on martyrs’ monument at the GHQ, the ISPR said. Afghan President was accompanied by Defence Minister General Bismillah Muhammadi, Afghan Chief of General Staff, General Sher Muhammad Karimi and senior Afghan security officials. Afghan delegation was given detailed briefing on security situation on the Pak-Afghan border. National Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Defence Secretary Lieutenant General Alam Khattak (retd) and DG ISI Lieutenant-General Rizwan Akhtar were also present.
