Turkey captures 79 illegal immigrants in Aegean Sea

ISLAMABAD:  Turkey’s Coast Guard has captured 79 illegal immigrants from Syria, Iraq, and Myanmar.

At least 79 immigrants, including two trafficking organizers, were illegally trying to reach the Greek islands through the Aegean Sea.

The coastguard was patrolling near Datca, southwestern Turkey, when they were alerted of a suspicious boat and requested it to stop, Anadolu Agency reports.

Two Azeri organizers of the trafficking were with the seventy-nine foreigners of Syrian, Iraqi, and Myanmar origin. The two Azeris – Telman Mametoglu Kuliyev and Rahil Ibisoglu Huseyinov are to be presented at court after deportation proceedings.

The illegal immigrants were taken into Datca State Hospital for medical controls and then to the local police department to launch a deportation process.

Turkey, a transit point for illegal immigrants trying to reach Europe, signed an agreement in December last year with the European Union, which allows EU countries to send back unauthorized immigrants entering Europe via Turkey.
