Steps being taken to eradicate polio, dengue: Minister

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Health and Food Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has said that effective measures are being taken to eradicate polio and dengue in the province while precautionary measures are being adopted at entry points.

This he said while presiding over a meeting in Sindh Secretariat after assuming the charge of Health Minister here on Thursday.

On this occasion Secretary Health Iqbal Durrai briefed the Provincial Health Minister that so far 23 polio cases had been detected and out of which 21 were reported in Karachi, one in Dadu and one in Sanghar as well.

Besides this yet 763 Dengue cases had been reported. Out of which 749 were reported in Karachi, 04 in Hyderabad, 03 in Balochistan and 07 in other districts of Sindh.

The Provincial Minister for Health and Food Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar was informed that due to measures of health Department mortality rate among mother and children was reduced.

As many as 67 hospitals and other health facilities were working under Sindh Health Department and the number of employees was almost 88859 in Health Department, he said.

Secretary Health Iqbal Durrani said that so far 6217980 children have been vaccinated against various diseases.

Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar said that action should be taken against quacks and he had accepted Ministry of Health as a challenge and within six months the people would observe big reforms in Health Department.

It was told in the meeting that polio campaign was being launched in 188 UCs of Karachi however certain UCs were identified in which Polio cases were reported and these UCs were specially being focused.

In the meeting Secretary Health Iqbal Durrani and other Additional Secretaries were also present.
