SCBA elections: legal eagles to battle it out on October 31

ISLAMABAD, Oct 24 (APP): The stage is set for the annual elections of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) to be held on October 31 (Friday)  for 2014-15.

The 22-member faculty is elected annually to manage the affairs of the Supreme Court Bar Association. The executive committee consists of the president, four vice-presidents (one from each province), secretary, additional secretary, finance secretary and 14 members elected from throughout Pakistan (at least two from each province).

This year’s presidential slot is reserved for the Khyber PakhtunKhwa province. Advocate Fazal e Haq and Advocate Abdul Sattar Khan are vying for the top slot.

According to the list of the members finalized by the Supreme Court Bar Association office, over 2,900 members will exercise their right of vote to  elect their body. However, a total fourteen Executive members of the SCBA will also be elected including two from each province on compulsory basis whereas the remaining six would be elected on merit without a bar of provincial quota.

There will be a tough competition between Fazal e Haq Abbasi and Abdul Sattar Khan as senior advocates of the Supreme Court having backing of rival groups of Syed Qalab e Hassan and Hamid Khan respectively.

Chaudhry Afrasiab has been made Chairman Election Board/Returning Officer. Polling will begin at 9am and continue till 4pm on October 31.
