ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has dismissed the Punjab government’s request to postpone by-election on NA-149 Multan.

According to the reports, following the Qasim Bagh tragedy , the Punjab government had requested that the by-election be postponed due to the security situation in the city, while the provincial election commission had said that the situation was fine and preparations had been completed.

After listening to both parties, the ECP said the by-election would be held on its scheduled date of October 16.

Following the resignation of Javed Hashmi, by-elections on NA-149 Multan are being held after the seat was vacated.
