PTI, PAT given last opportunity to file reply in marches case

LAHORE: A Lahore High Court full bench Wednesday gave last opportunity to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) to file reply by October 20 in a petition against marches.

The court ordered office to ensure service of notices to Dr Tahir ul Qadri at Islamabad or any other place on a contempt application against holding marches and dharnas despite the court orders.

The full bench comprising Justice Muhammad Khalid Mehmood Khan, Justice Shahid Hameed Dar and Justice Anwaarul Haq passed the orders while hearing petitions against marches and a contempt application for holding marches and dharnas despite the court orders.

As the proceedings started, a federal law officer informed that the Supreme Court orders in a pending identical matter had been placed at record as per orders of the bench.

PTI’s counsel told the bench that leading counsel Ahmad Owais was busy before the Apex Court today but reply had been filed to the contempt application.

However, petitioner’s counsel Ak Dogar pointed out that no reply had been filed in the main writ petition tilted ” Lawyers Foundation for Justice” by the respondent parties.

To a court query, the PTI counsel sought short time to file reply in the main petition.

The bench also noted that notices were not served on Dr Tahir ul Qadri on a contempt application.

To a court question, the office staff replied that the notices could not be served due to non-availability of the respondent at his residence in Lahore.

The bench adjourning the further proceedings till October 20 gave last opportunity to the respondents for filing reply in main petition and directed office to ensure service of notice to Dr Tahir ul Qadri on contempt application.
