PM lauds armed forces for successfully undertaking operation Zarb-e-Azb

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Friday lauded the armed forces of the country for successfully undertaking operation Zarb-e-Azb and clearing the area of terrorists.

Chairing a National Security Council meeting here at the PM House, he shared with the participants his experience of visit to Miranshah a day earlier that had now been cleared of terrorists after the successful operation Zarb-e-Azb.

The Prime Minister, in his initial remarks, said the two agenda items on the meeting were: tension along the Line of Control and briefing on the operation Zarb-e-Azb.

Recalling his visit to the headquarters of North Waziristan  Agency, he said, “It was a very moving experience for me.”

He mentioned his meeting with the officers and Jawans “who are willing to undertake any sacrifice for the survival of Pakistan.”

“They have fought very bravely in the area and cleared all of North Waziristan area.”

The Prime Minister said he visited the city and had an aerial view of adjoining mountain tops that were occupied by the terrorists for past many years.

“I am very happy to see the outcome of the operation Zarb-e-Azb, MashAllah which is progressing very successfully.”

“I must compliment all officers and Jawans. And all those, who lost their lives and sacrificed their lives for Pakistan, must be compemented by all of us.”

Nawaz Sharif said, “We like to convey our sincerest and heartfelt condolences to their families.”

He said the Pakistan Army was already taking care of their families and “if there was anything that the government can do to provide them further relief and help, we will be very happy to do that.”

The Prime Minister said he witnessed very moving scenes yesterday. He said the area had been cleared of all terrorists.

He also recalled his visit to the basement of a mosque that was being used for promoting the cause of terrorism and had rooms where the young recruits were trained.

There were depots of explosives and ammunition.

He termed it “a life-time experience” that included a very detailed briefing.

He lauded the Pakistan Army for a “marvellous job done” and Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif under whose command the army was undertaking the operation.

The Prime Minister also welcomed the new Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah.

The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid and Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz.

The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the three services chiefs also attended the meeting.
