Minister for Environment seeks data of polluting units in the province

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Environment and Coastal Development, Dr. Sikander Mandhro has sought data compilation of agricultural, industrial and commercial units responsible for environmental pollution in the province.

Chairing a meeting of environment protection and pollution control department officials Wednesday at his office in Sindh Assembly Building, the minister said consolidated efforts must be made for across the board promotion of environment friendly measures.

Dr. Sikander Mandhro said the units found responsible for polluting natural resources, be they the water, air or land must be issued warning letter with adequate time to rectify faults within their respective systems.

”Inability therein to prevent pollution must be contained through stringent application of law that is extremely clear about action to be taken against polluters,” said Dr. Sikander Mandhro.

The meeting among others was also attended by Secretary for Environment, Naila Wajid, Director, Sindh Environmental Protection Agency, Naim Mughal and other senior officials of the department.

The minister also urged the officials to meet the environmental challenges through adequate application of technology available at their disposal.
