PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police Tuesday got as many as 256 vehicles equipped with armoured plates making them bullet and bomb proof, an official of KP police informed.
The vehicles were provided by provincial government after a request made by police department with a view to protect police officials from terrorists attacks during patrolling and operation.
The official said that the telecommunication and transport branch of KP police had installed armoured plates in 204 single-cabin and 52 double-cabin pickup trucks, adding that installation of armoured plates was more cost-effective than purchasing bullet proof vehicles.
He further said the vehicles would be used by officials of Bomb Disposal Squad, by police during operations and in special security squads to provide maximum protection to police officials and to reduce their casualties.
It is pertinent to mention here that the terrorists and miscreants had time and again targeted police officials in the province especially in areas such as Budhber and Mattani in outskirts of Peshawar.
