MIRPUR: The construction work is in full progress with fast pace for on-time completion of Rs 274.882 billion 969-MW Neelum-Jhelum Hydroelectric Project of vital national importance being constructed in Muzaffarabad district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
One out of four units for generation of power by the mega project will be completed by December next year (2015), official sources told APP here late Tuesday.
They added that entire project would be ready to generate stipulated volume of electricity by the end of year 2016.
The sources continued that completion of Neelum-Jhelum Hydroelectric Project was very vital to help overcome the electricity crisis, as it would generate 969-MW of low-cost hydel electricity.
The project management was actively considering various options to further speed up construction work on the project.
The Neelum-Jhelum Hydroelectric Project is being constructed over the rivers Neelum in AJK. The project will contribute about 5.15 billion units of electricity annually to the National Grid. Annual benefits of the project have been estimated at Rs.30 billion.
