PESHAWAR: Election Tribunal in Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday disqualified provincial minister for agriculture, Sardar Ikramullah Gandapur Khan on the charges of holding a fake degree.
The election tribunal DI Khan presided over by Judge Syed Yahya Zahid Gillani after hearing arguments of the petitioner’s lawyer and defence counsel besides facts of the case declared Ikramullah ineligible to be a lawmaker.
Ikramullah belonged to Pakistan Tahrik-e-Insaf (PTI) and was awarded the portfolio of the Agriculture Minister in the PTI led provincial Cabinet in KP.He had won the by-election from PK-67 DI Khan-1V and his opponent Fataullah Mian Khel had challenged the authenticity of his degree.
Ikramullah had secured 28073 votes against Fataullah Mian khel 14983 votes in by-election held on PK-67 DI Khan-1V. The election tribunal thoroughly investigated the allegations before announcing verdict in this important case today.
Ikramullah was elected through a by-election on the Dera Ismail Khan PK-67 seat, after it was vacated following the assassination of his brother Law Minister Israrullah Gandapur in a suicide attack at Tehsil Kulachi DI Khan.
Ikramullah Gandapur is the second PTI Minister disqualified on charges of holding a fake degree since the party formed the KP government last year. Yousaf Ayub, another PTI minister, was de-seated earlier for possessing a fake degree.
