LHC seeks Justice Akhtar commission report in case against PAT

LAHORE: A full bench of the Lahore High Court Monday while issuing notice to Punjab home secretary sought report of Justice Akhtar Hassan Commission till October 15.

The full bench comprising Justice Muhammad Khalid Mehmood Khan, Justice Shahid Hameed Dar and Justice Anwaarul Haq passed the orders on a petition filed by Amjad Ali seeking directions to ban Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).

During proceedings, the petitioner requested the bench to restrain Dr Tahir ul Qadri from making speeches against the sovereignty of the country.

However, the bench observed that no order could be passed without hearing the other side.

Deputy Attorney General Waqas Dar submitted that compact discs (CDs) of Dr Tahir ul Qadri’s disputed speeches be placed on record.

To a court query regarding transcripts of the speeches, the law officer assured that it would be submitted on the next date of hearing.

The LHC Registrar also appeared before the bench on being summoned and submitted that the report of Justice Akhtar Hassan Commission was not available in the court record and it was learnt that the report was submitted to the Punjab government after its completion.

The bench adjourning the matter till October 15 sought the report of Justice Akhtar Hassan Commission from the Punjab home secretary.

The bench also directed the petitioner to submit process fee for issuance of notices to the respondents.

The petitioner through his petition impleaded Dr Tahir ul Qadri and PAT. He submitted that Dr Tahir ul Qadri’s provocative speeches were creating a law and order situation and it was the reason for loss of lives in the Model Town
incident. He pleaded the court to issue directions to ban PAT while referring to the Justice Akhtar Hassan Commission report about Dr Tahir ul Qadri.
