KARACHI: Senior Education Minister of Sindh Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has said that Imran Khan, instead of demanding Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s resignation, should himself step down from PTI’s chairmanship, as he had admitted rigging in his own party’s elections.
Addressing a news conference at his chambers in the Sindh Assembly here on Tuesday, he said that Javed Hashmi is a democratic politician and if he joins the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), he will be welcomed.
He criticised Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) chief Tahir-ul-Qadri for the politics of agitation. He suggested to Imran Khan and Tahir-ul-Qadri to stop teaching their workers the ways to derail democracy, rather they should be taught to strengthen democracy.
He said that the then president Asif Ali Zardari had done away with Article 58-2-B and provided provincial autonomy, but perhaps Khan and Qadri are still living in that era, when democratically elected government would have been toppled.
The PPP leader said that all the politicians who faced hardships and made sacrifices for the restoration of democracy and have the public mandate are united, while on the other side are those people who boycotted elections and those who have been making hue and cry over alleged rigging in the last general elections.
Nisar Khuhro said that Imran Khan disregarded sanctity of vote by not holding meaningful dialogue with the government, because if the talks had been held, they would have reached some point of consensus.
He said that all the parliamentary parties are united that Parliament is supreme, and therefore no one can demand resignation from the Prime Minister, nor would it be allowed to be done.
The PPP leader said Imran Khan should mend his ways, because after his party’s estranged president Javed Hashmi, anyone else can also come forward to expose him.
He said that PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi had met former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf during his visit to Karachi, and he questioned, now why was he denying it.
