KARACHI: A bomb blast targeting the squad of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Farooq Awan here on Thursday night left two persons dead and the police officer and six others injured, the police said.
According to the IG Police Sindh office SSP Farooq Awan sustained minor injuries in the blast that targeted his car in Defence Phase-4 area.
He was shifted to a private hospital in the area. The other dead and injured were shifted to Jinnah Hospital.
A Jinnah hospital doctor told the APP that the hospital received one body and seven injured. One of the injured succumbed to injuries during treatment, the doctor added.
One of the deceased was identified as Abdul Ghafoor, son of Abdul Kareem.
The blast damaged the car of the SSP and several other vehicles. Windowpanes of nearby buildings were also shattered.
The police cordoned off the crime scene and began collecting forensic evidence from the site.
