ISLAMABADa: Former Turkish international and former Galatasaray striker Hakan Sukur will receive the “Golden Foot Football Legend award given by the Principality of Monaco every year.
According to press release issued by the Golden Foot Award Monaco committee, this year’s award has been attributed to 43-year-old Sukur for his outstanding career, Anadolu News Agency reported.
A ceremony will be held on October 11 in Monte Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort where Sukur will leave his footprints on the “Champions Promenade” the same way movie stars imprint their hands in Hollywood.
Former Galatasaray striker, now an independent lawmaker, will be given the award by Prince Albert II of Monaco. In addition, a gala dinner will be held on October 13. Several players who received this award in the past will be in attendance.
Many remarkable footballers such as former Juventus attacking midfielder from Czech Republic Pavel Nedved, AC Milan’s ex-Ukrainian striker Andriy Shevchenko, or Brazil’s legendary forward Ronaldo won this award in the past.
Sukur is Turkey’s all-time scorer with 51 goals, He scored the fastest goal in World Cup history by finding the net against South Korea in the 11th second in the 2002 World Cup third-place game.
The former Galatasaray legend played for Torino, Inter Milan and Parma in Italy and Blackburn in England.
In the 1999-2000 football season, Sukur, became top scorer for his team Galatasaray, who won the Turkish first division title, the Turkish Cup and as well as the UEFA Cup, the first European title in Turkish football history.
