QUETTA: Chief Minister Balochistan, Dr Abdul Malik Baloch has said that sound economy is inevitable for strengthening of democracy. Balochistan has thousands years old civilization which needs more research to be explored.
Law and order situation is quite better in Balochistan as compared to many other big cities of the country, however, poverty looms across the province, he added.
He expressed these views during a meeting with France’s Consul General Francois Dall Orso who called on him here Monday.
The Chief Minister said that people in over 29 districts of the province are living below the poverty line, however, incumbent government is utilizing all available resources for improving the situation.
Our entire region is under conflict. Like other areas Balochistan is also facing sectarianism, extremism and many other challenges, he told the envoy, adding that impression about deteriorating law and order in Balochistan is wrong.
The Chief Minister said that coalition government is paying special focus on education, as government is establishing six new universities and three medical colleges. Apart from these, the government has allocated 26 per cent of budget for improvement of education.
As many as 2.3 million children in Balcohistan are not going to school and we need to establish 12000 more schools which will cost us Rs 63 billion, he added.
He said that despite meager resources in the hand of Balochistan, the government is striving to improve the economy of the province, provide job to the youth and improve basic facilities.
He told the Consul General that there are vast opportunities of investment in various sectors of Balochistan, including that of agriculture, livestock, mining, fisheries and energy.
Government will provide every possible security and especial incentives to investors and would soon organize Balochistan Development Forum where investors would be apprised about goverment strategy and opportunities available he said.
On the occasion, French Consul General said that Balochistan due to its old civilization has great importance for entire world and added that France is interested for making more exploration in the province.
He said that France also interested to work in Balochistan for promoting education, elimination of poverty and investment.
