LAHORE: Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and United Business Group (UBG) on Monday called upon the entire business community of the country to extend maximum help and support to the people affected by torrential rains and floods.
Talking to APP here, the FPCCI President Usman Zakria and the UBG Chairman Iftikhar Ali Malik said that businessmen and industrialists had the track record of always standing with the countrymen in distress especially during natural calamities.
Usman Zakria recalled that business and industrialist community of Pakistan had played an unprecedented role in helping out the affected people during the devastating earthquake of 2005 and raging floods in 2009 and 2010.
He added that traders and businessmen had also ensured their active presence in the support and rehabilitation of the IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) of South Waziristan Agency (SWA) and Swat, while this time, they were also making every effort for help and assistance to the IDPs of North Waziristan Agency (NWA).
The UBG Chairman Iftikhar Ali Malik also appreciated the business community for being in the forefront in relief and rescue activities in the areas affected by torrential rains and floods. He said that this time, the business and trade community as well as the industrialists must realize their social corporate responsibilities and perform a more active role in helping and easing out the difficulties of the helpless and homeless people hit by heavy rains and floods.
Both the business leaders urged all the chambers of commerce and industry, trade associations and industrialists bodies to take effective measures for providing relief to the flood-affected people . They said that the chambers of commerce and trade bodies should start fund raising campaigns in their respective business areas for provision of maximum financial assistance to the flood affected.
