Flood relief: PM promises pay out to flood-hit people

BHAWANA: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday reiterated the government’s resolve to leave no stone unturned and take all possible measures to mitigate the sufferings caused to the people by recent floods in the country.

Addressing a public gathering in Chiniot, he said that the governments — both federal and provincial — will continue their efforts until all flood-stricken families are rehabilitated and get due compensation for their losses.

“I assure you that the government will put in all-out efforts to facilitate you in this time of need,” he remarked.

Nawaz said that he had come to sympathise with the flood-hit families in the hour of distress and to help mitigate their sufferings and also examine the relief efforts.

“Punjab government as well as the federal government will support you till complete rehabilitation. You will be compensated for your crops, cattle and houses destroyed by the floods,” he assured the gathering.

The prime minister promised to visit the area again to examine the disbursement of compensation money and efforts to rehabilitate the area.

Nawaz said the government was entrusted the money by the public and it will be spent only for public welfare. He said in case any flood-hit family does not get its due compensation, both Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif would ensure provision of its right.

He also ordered authorities to declare the area as calamity-hit and render all due concessions to the residents entitled to them. Nawaz said the assessment of losses would soon start and the people would find the government with them throughout the compensation and rehabilitation process.

Later, addressing a public gathering in Sargodha, the premier said the people of this constituency were very dear to him as they had elected him in the elections. He said the flash floods have wreaked havoc in different areas within no time. However the government was active in responding to the prevailing situation.
