HAFIZABAD: The Chenab River was in high flood at Qadirabad Barrage with discharge of 650,000 cusecs water on Saturday evening.
According to the Flood Control Division, the water level was rising at Marala in the evening and it feared that during next 12 hours it might increase up to 800,000 cusecs at Qadirabad.
As many as 80 villages, including Channi Ghulla, Kot Bela,Channi Rehan, Channi Rehman, Kot Hassan, Kot Mian, Bagh Syedan, Bagh Kala, Channi Sultan, Kot Saleem, Asadullah Pur, Allauddinke,Burj Elahi, Burj Bahayan, Peer Kot, Bhoon Fazal, Bahri Tarar and Vanike Tarar had been worst affected. Hundreds of acres of standing paddy, sugarcane and maize crops, and fodders had also been damaged.
Rescue-1122 evacuated over 200 villagers by using boats and shifted them to relief centres.
The Pak Army personnel led by Brig Kamran and Col Shahid were carrying out rescue and relief operation and evacuated shifted 150 marooned people to safer places so far.
DCO Muhammad Usman and District Flood Officer have assured that all possible efforts would be made to protect lives of flood-stricken people. They said 100 tents had been provided at nine relief centres and evacuated people would be rehabilitated in schools and tents.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Health Regulations and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar has appealed to the flood affected villagers to cooperate with rescue officials in their evacuation.
