PESHAWAR: At least three people were killed including an FC personnel and 14 others sustained injuries in a powerful car bomb blast apparently targeting the convey of Frontier Corps near Railways Station here on Tuesday morning.
CCPO, Peshawar, Ejaz Khan told reporters that three people including an FC personnel, a woman and a passerby were killed in a powerful car bomb blast on Sher Shahsuri Road.
As many as 14 other persons also sustained injuries in the explosion.
The CCPO said the explosion occurred where a bomb planted in an Alto car was exploded when the convey of Frontier Corps was passing through the busy Sher Shahsuri Road in cantonment area.
As result, FC personnel Zarin Khan Afridi, resident of Bara Khyber Agency, civilian Muhammad Tahir son of Raza Khan Resident of Nowshera and Mst Saba Gul daughter of Noor Muhammad resident of Kotal Mohsin Khan Peshawar died on the spot. The injured were shifted to Lady Reading and CMH hospitals.
The condition of three wounded were started to be in a critical condition. The gunfire was also reported from the area after the blast and windows of nearby buildings and cars were shattered. Emergency was enforced in Peshawar hospitals after the incident.
AIG bomb disposal squad Shafqat Malik said 45 kilograms of explosives were used in the blast. He said mortar shells were also put in with the explosives to increase the impact of the blast.
Information Minister Khyber Pakthunkhwa, Mustaq Ghani told reporters at the site of the blast that the attacker was an Alto Car who apparently tried to target the convey of Frontier Corps.
Member Provincial Assembly, Shaukat Yousafzai also visited Lady Reading Hospital and enquired about the health of injured victims. He said it seemed that the attacker was in an Alto Car who tried to target FC conveys that was passing through the area. He said doctors and para medical staff has been directed to provide best medical treatment to the victims.
Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan have strongly condemned attack on security forces convey in Peshawar and expressed profound grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives.
In a press statement issued here, the Governor expressed solidarity with Brigadier Khalid who remained safe in this gory incident and held sacrifices of FC jawan and other martyrs in high esteem.
The Governor said the nation would always make proud of our brave and valiant soldiers who are performing their official duties with great valour and courage.
The Governor prayed Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to members of the bereaved family to bear this loss with patience. He directed the hospital administration to provide best medical facilities to the injured.
The Central President Awami National Party, Asfandyar Wali Khan while strongly condemning the bomb blast, expressed profound grief and sorrow over the sad loss of precious lives.
In a press statement issued here, he said those who are sabotaging the peace could not become the well wishers of the country.
He termed attack on security officials was cowardice act and such inhuman incidents can’t deter the determination of people and security officials. He demanded of the Government to immediately arrest the culprits involved in this gory incident and awarded them exemplary punishment.
Asfandyar Wali said those who create restiveness in the country, are in fact enemy of the country and such elements have no ideology and religion.
He alleged that the rulers of Khyber Pakthunkhwa have left people on the mercy of terrorists by staging sit-ins in Islamabad which was a mat0ter of great concern. Due to lackluster approach in KP, the minorities also feel insecure.
