QUETTA: Chief Minister Balochistan, Dr Abdul Malik Baloch has said that vast reforms are needed in QESCO to eradicate corruption and flaws from the department.
He said that stoppage of overbilling and improvement of electricity transmission lines in Balochistan are need of the hour.
He was talking to Minister of State for Water and Power, Abid Sher Ali who called on him here on Thursday. Chief Minister said that farmers in Balochistan were ready to pay the electricity bills but there should be a proper mechanism adding that unfortunately instead of regularizing these lines, the officials of department were promoting culture of extortion which is defaulting the department.
He said that money paid by formers goes in personal kitties of some officials in QESCO instead of department that is national loss.
Reforms on massive level are needed in QESCO and there should be a proper system of accountability, he said, adding that culture of corruption and free- usage of electricity has put QESCO in crisis and earned a bad name for the province.
He said that the burden of line losses should not be put on consumers who were regularly paying their bills, adding that the arrears outstanding against provincial departments would be paid.
Chief Minister said that Balochistan needs the support of federal government for up-gradation of grid stations and construction of dams as agriculture sector and domestic consumers are suffering a lot.
On the occasion, Minister Abid Sher Ali assured that federal government
would take steps to steer out Balochistan from the crises and to remove sense of deprivation prevailing among the people. He said that federal government would also provide assistance for up-gradation of grid stations and reducing line losses.
