LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Siraj ul Haq Saturday said that all democratic forces in the country should unite to protect democracy as it symbolizes national integration.
The JI Chief stressed the need to include more and more people in the democratic process to rid the country of extremism.”Though the country did not have ideal democracy, still it was better than dictatorship as people enjoyed basic human rights, media was free, courts held the central status and confidence of the common man had increased manifold,” he added.
Siraj ul Haq said all democratic forces should stand above party and personal interests for the sake of democracy in the coutry, adding that he had presented his services as a well-wisher of democracy rather than a friend of the PTI or the government.
To a question, he said the PTI leadership should have waited for at least three years before launching their protest campaign and it would have also provided an opportunity to serve the people in the KPK as well.
To another question, the JI Chief said the no-confidence move against the KPK government would not succeed, adding the PTI would not resign from the KPK assembly.
To a query, he said the government had not failed but it was the failure of the institutions when a candidate could not get justice from a system despite spending Rs 20 million.
He said the five-point formula by the JI provided a solution to the current political crisis in the country, adding that the West wanted to impose its agenda on Pakistan as well.
Regarding a remedy to the crisis, he said whatever be the solution to the current crisis but an example should be set for the rest so that no one could launch an assault on democracy in future.
To a question, Siraj ul Haq said the reforms committee could resolve the crisis within 40 days, adding that the judicial commission could present its report within 30 days.
