SIALKOT: Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI)on Tuesday offered the Punjab government for construction of Sialkot-Lahore expressway, a long-awaited demand to connect Sialkot to other big cities.
The offer was made by Dr Sarfraz Bashier, President SCCI, while talking to APP on Tuesday. “If the Punjab government allows us to collect toll tax, we are ready to build the Sialkot-Lahore expressway,” he added.
Sarfraz said, “We have sent a number of proposals for the construction of a road from Sialkot to Lahore. The SCCI, however, has not received a green signal.” He said the government had agreed to rebuild the Sialkot-Aimenabad-Lahore road but as per the feasibility report, it would not be possible to turn the road into an expressway.
He stressed building an expressway between Sialkot and Lahore to connect business activities of Sialkot with the provincial capital.
Dr Sarfraz said it would boost the local economy.
