LAHORE: Lahore High Court Bar Association(LHCBA) President, Shafqat Mehmood Chohan and eminent Lawyer AK Dogar Friday welcomed Supreme Court decision of restraining authorities from acting in any unconstitutional manner.
Talking to APP here, LHCBA President, Shafqat Mehmood Chohan said that Apex Court bench orders should be respected by all as no body was above the law.
He maintained that the decision would have positive effects in the current situation, he added.
Shafqat said that the bar already through a resolution had expressed that any unconstitutional step would not be accepted and the lawyers would resist it.
He emphasised the political matters should be resolved politically.
However, he maintained, that there was no chance of any unconstitutional step as the country could not afford its consequences.
He said that the present long march was issue of a single party as lawyers, civil society, traders and others sections had not supported it.
Shafqat said that the prime minister could not be forced to resign and the constitution did not approve the method adopted by the agitating parties.
He said that if it was supposed that PTI and PAT succeeded in achieving their aims through agitation then it would become a precedent and any body could follow it later.
“Then the country’s decisions would take place on roads”, he added.
Advocate AK Dogar hailing the SC verdict said that the SC bench asked all functionaries to work within constitutional limits and it was based on Sindh High Court Bar Association case wherein the court had already declared that any unconstitutional step would be equal to treason.
He said that the decision endorsed a Lahore High Court full bench interim order wherein PTI and PAT demands were held as unconstitutional and they were restrained from marches and dharna (sit-in) in Islamabad.
He said that no body was above law and all political parties should respect the court orders in the interest of the country. He said that if the court orders were not respected then it could lead to anarchy.
