LAHORE:The 68th Independence Day of Pakistan is being celebrated with traditional fervour and enthusiasm in the provincial metropolis on Thursday.
The day dawned with 21-gun salutes in the provincial capital.Special prayers were offered at all city mosques for the progress, prosperity, integrity and solidarity of the country besides unity of Muslim Ummah and liberation of Kashmir and Palestine.
Various public and private organisations have chalked out a series of programmes including seminars, conferences,lectures, debates, speech contests, exhibitions, quiz competitions, stage dramas and Mushairas to celebrate the day in a befitting manner.
Radio and television channels have also prepared programmes to air music shows, declamation contests, feature, documentaries, interviews and other programmes to mark the Independence Day.
All governmental and private buildings, roads and avenues were decorated tastefully with lights, national flags, portraits of the national leaders, banners and buntings.
Meanwhile, change of guard ceremony was also held at Mazar-e-Iqbal where a smartly turned contigent of Pak Army took charge from Punjab Rangers.
Later, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif visited Iqbal mausoleum, laid a floral wreath and offered Fateha.
