ISLAMABAD: Chaudhry Jaffar Iqbal of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has said that independence is a great gift, which should be highly valued as many nations are still struggling for their freedom.
Talking to Radio Pakistan, he appreciated Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s decision to dedicate the whole month of August to independence celebrations rather than the Independence Day to remind the people about the sacrifices for the sacred land.
Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique had opened the independence celebrations by laying a wreath at the Mazar of Allama Muhammad Iqbal in Lahore (on Friday) and the PML-N legislators would hold programmes in this regard in their respective areas, he added.
Senior analyst Dr Sarfaraz said it was a positive step that the government was going to celebrate the Independence Day in an organized way.
He said the country had an independent judiciary and a strong Election Commission. The political parties should show maturity and resolve issues through parliament, he added.
