KHANEWAL: Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) president Makhdoom Faisal Saleh Hayat has said the PFF will carry on its efforts to promote the game, groom talent and develop playing facilities across the country.
The PFF president said this while laying foundation of FIFA academy/training centre at here Wednesday last.
World football governing body FIFA was fully financing Rs 7.75 million project to build a state-of-the-art FIFA training center and football ground at Khanewal with a full boarding and lodging facility for 200 football players under FIFA Goal Project.
Eight acre land has been allocated to the PFF under a 30-year lease for the project by the district government.
The PFF will bear the running cost for the maintenance of the FIFA Football Center. The project was launched on Aug 27 and would be completed in one and a half years. Faisal promised to bring international level events to Khanewal once the project is completed.
He also thanked DCO Khanewal Muhammad Usman Moazzam for his special efforts to make this dream a reality and said the mega project in Khanewal would provide a golden opportunity to the youth of the region to show their talent.
Football has taken off in the country and future of the game was very bright by virtue of well directed policies of PFF, he added.
He mentioned the recent excellent display of quality football by the Pakistan National Football team in the two-match series bringing victory to Pakistan against Indian national team in Banglore.
President PFF also applauded endeavors of Vice President Punjab Football Association Abdul Qyyum from khanewal & Mian Abdul Bari Secretary DFA Khanewal and FIFA Referee.
General Secretary PFF Lt Col (retd) Ahmed Yar Khan Lodhi thanked the Punjab government for allotting land near GT Road for historic FIFA project.
Khanewal FIFA football training center would be the 8th facility in the cuontry. Other centers being built/completed at Sukkur, Jacobabad, Quetta, Abbotabad, Karachi, Peshawar, and Lahore.
Director Member Associations and Projects PFF Lt Col (retd) Farasat Ali Shah, Maj. Rtd. Jahangir Khan Lodhi Director Admin PFF, Arshad Khan Lodhi President Punjab Football Association were also present.One-minute silence was also observed in the memory of late Mr. Abdul Qyyum, President DFA Khanewal, who had passed away few days ago.
