KARACHI: Dignified yet colourful programs have been chalked out to mark the 68th Independence Day of Pakistan in the largest city and economic hub of the country.
Various organizations will hold flag hoisting ceremonies,contests and competitions to pay tributes to the national heroes and to highlight the importance of the Independence.
The main program of the day in the provincial capital will be held at the mausoleum of the Founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Programs will also be organised at Karachi Psychiatric Hospital,Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, and Sir Adamjee Institute to mark the Independence day.
A boat race will be organised by Pakistan Coast Guards from PCG Marine Wing Keamari to celebrate the Independence Day.
The district Malir Cycling Association is organizing all Karachi Jashan-e-Azadi Cycle Race on the eve of Independence Day.
People from various walks of life have decorated their houses with national flags, colourful buntings and fancy lights while the buildings, city shopping centers, markets and commercial centres and all the main roads are adorned with flags.
Almost in all areas of the city make shifts stalls have been set up carrying decorative items including national flags, multi-coloured garlands, buntings, badges, models of Minar-e-Pakistan and portraits of the Quaid-e-Azam and other national heroes.
Mostly children are seen collecting stickers, badges and other items to beautify themselves and their bicycles with stickers inscribed with messages of the Independence Day.
