Athletics: Hungarian Olympic champion dies after illness

BUDAPEST: Hungarian Angela Nemeth, the 1968 Olympic javelin champion, has died at the age of 68 after a long illness, her family told Hungarian MTI news agency on Tuesday.

Nemeth was just 22 when she won the gold medal in Mexico with a throw of 60.36m.

A year later she added the European title in Athens, although her first love was basketball, in which she was a Hungarian international.
