The official rupee-dollar parity moved both ways on the currency market on Tuesday in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee shed three-paisa against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 98.83 and Rs 98.93, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: In contrast, the rupee gained in relation to the dollar, picking up 10-paisa for buying and selling at Rs 98.80 and Rs 99.00 respectively. It, however, lost 25-paisa in terms of the euro for buying and selling at Rs 134.25 and Rs 134.50 respectively, they said.
In the second Asian trade, the dollar held steady versus a basket of major currencies, having retreated from the previous day’s near-two-week high, giving the euro a chance to get over an unexpected slump in German industrial output. The dollar index was at 80.233, off a 1-1/2-week peak at 80.359 set on Monday. Still, it managed to hold on to most of the gains made in the wake of solid payrolls data on Thursday.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 59.91, the greenback was at 3.1770 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the greenback was available at 6.2058 versus the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee maintained upward slide for another day and gained five-paisa against the US dollar on the local currency market on Tuesday.
According to the currency dealers, the rupee resumed trading at its day earlier closing of Rs 99.00 and Rs 99.25 as its buying and selling rates, respectively. In the absence of buyers’ interest, the dollar was marginally declined to Rs 98.95 and Rs 99.20 on buying and selling side, respectively.
Likewise, the rupee remained strong and appreciated its worth against the pound sterling. The pound was purchased and sold at Rs 168.75 and Rs 169.00 compared with Monday closing of Rs 168.80 and Rs 169.05, respectively, the dealers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained firm against the dollar on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Tuesday.
The dollar opened at Rs 98.50 (buying) and Rs 98.60 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 98.50 (buying) and Rs 98.60 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 165 (buying) and Rs 165.50 (selling) against same last rate. It closed at the same rate without further change by the end of evening session.
