ISLAMABAD: The Dubai Police have arrested 209 beggars, including 34 women and nine children so far, during Ramazan under its anti-begging campaign, which took off when Ramazan started.
Warning the public about the different ways the beggars have invented to gain sympathy, Colonel Mohammed Rashid, Director of General Department of Tourist Security, said that people from some Arab countries are sending text messages on phones, narrating sad stories to gain sympathy, Khaleej Times reported.
He explained that a number of UAE nationals complained that they are receiving messages from the UAE and some Arab countries where people are narrating their stories, asking for help and giving their account number.
Major Ali Al Shamsi, Director of Anti-Begging section of the Dubai Police, said beggars sometimes use injection for causing abnormal swelling of the body in order to gain sympathy.
