PPB’s passage to help eliminate terrorism: Pervaiz Rashid

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Pervaiz Rashid said on Wednesday the historic passage of Protection of Pakistan Bill (PPB) would help eliminate terrorism, violence and sectarianism in the country.

The minister, in a statement here, felicitated the nation, parliamentary leaders of parties in Senate and National Assembly, lauding their acumen for the smooth passage of PPB.

He said the parliament had proved that the nation was united against terrorism and extremism. The passage of the bill from Senate, despite government’s insufficient numerical strength there, showed the seriousness and “maturity” of political parties’ regarding the issues of national importance. “Each and every member of the parliament have kept
national interest supreme”.

He said he was sure that the country’s leadership would continue showing such maturity in tackling other national issues with mutual cooperation.

It may be noted that the Protection of Pakistan Bill was already approved by Senate on Monday whereas it sailed through the National Assembly  on Wednesday. Now under the bill, strict action could be taken against those, who challenge the government’s writ.
