LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is observing Black Day today (Saturday) throughout the country to mark the imposition of martial law by General Ziaul Haq, as 37 years completed to the fall of Bhutto’s Government, Aaj News reported.
Pakistan People’s Party is observing black day in lamentation. On 5th July, 1977, General Zia-ul-Haq dismissed the elected Government of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and imposed Martial Law in the country. Zia-ul-Haq assured the nation to rehold the elections within three months but it didn’t happen and he remained in power for over ten years. People’s party is lamenting this day as black day.
In this regard different rallies and demonstration will be held all over the country. Former President Asif Ali Zardari said in his message that the day of July 5, 1977 is the darkest day in the history of Pakistan. Army dictator distorted the constitution of the country and destroyed the national institutions, he further said.
