KARACHI: As many as 31 shopkeepers were arrested and sent to jail during the crackdown launched in the city to check the illegal profiteering, and violation of the officially approved price list of essential commodities.

During the crackdown, 293 shopkeepers were challaned and a fine of Rs 489,000 were imposed for overcharging in violation to the price list of essential commodities. The actions against profiteers were taken in different areas including Saddar, Civil Line, Garden, Bin Qasim, Ibrahim Haidery, New Karachi, Landhi, Korangi, Baldia, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters,
Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulzar Hijri, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Orangi and Model Coloney.
Total 40 milk sellers, 94 fruits vendors, 93 vegetable merchants, 19 food items grocers, 27 chicken sellers and 20 flour sellers were challaned for violating price list.
The Commissioner Karachi said that the crackdown against profiteers will continue, till the time the sale of essential items is
not ensured in accordance with the price list.
