ISLAMABAD: Asif Ali Zardari, former President and Co-Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Friday said that he would like to extend heartfelt felicitations to PPP workers on the occasion of 61st birth anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.
In a statement issued here, he said that the anniversary is being commemorated at a time when the nation has finally decided to root out militancy from the country.
He said that it was a battle which Benazir had vowed to wage and lead from the front and during the course of which she laid down her life.
“This birth anniversary of our leader is an occasion to reiterate our pledge to defeat the militant mindset and uphold the ideals of democracy, pluralism and rule of law for which Shaheed Bhutto stood for and struggled throughout her life.”, he added.
He saluted all those in the armed forces, the police, the civil law enforcing agencies and the people who have sacrificed their lives or suffered otherwise in the fight against militancy.
The nation cannot forget them and would not allow their sacrifices go in vain, he maintained.
