ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Syed Khurshid Shah here on Saturday said that solution of all the problems being confronted by the country lies in democracy.
Talking to media outside the Parliament House, he said “We are with the democracy; country’s future linked with democracy and no one would be allowed to derail it”.
He said that all the issues being faced by the country should be discussed and solved in the Parliament.
“We will do what ever required for protecting democracy,” he added. Khurshid Shah said that protests, demonstrations are the democratic rights of political parties but they should remain peaceful.
The Opposition leader said that protests are not threat to democracy. To a question, he welcomed resignation of Punjab Law Minister, Rana Sanaullah and said it indicated that the government was serious in conducting impartial enquiry of the Lahore incident.
He expressed the hope that judicial commission constituted by the Punjab government to probe the Lahore incident would reach to its conclusion soon. Khurshid Shah urged media to report any sensitive incident with responsibility and care.
“Incidents being negatively reported by the local media, internationally damages the country’s image” he said.
He added that Karachi incident reported by local media had badly damaged the country’s image abroad.
After, Karachi incident, Maldives president cancelled his trip to Pakistan and insurance companies had doubled insurance rate of plane, he addded.
He also paid tribute to former Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto, whose 61st birth anniversary was being observed across the country.
He urged political leaders to follow the footprints of great leader and worked for strengthening democracy.
He said that Benazir Bhutto had rendered matchless sacrifices for strengthening democracy.
