ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid on Monday said the Government was committed to providing all security measures to Chief Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Dr. Tahir ul Qadri and his plane was diverted to Lahore to ensure his own safety.
Talking to a different news channels, he said the plane was also diverted due to security threats as any untoward
incident could happen at surroundings of airport in Federal Capital.
He said, “the government wanted to ensure safe arrival of Dr. Tahir ul Qadri to his home and that was why he was
advised and requested to fly through helicopter”.
“We want to save life of Dr. Tahir ul Qadri and also want to avoid allegations levelled on us by PAT chief against the
government regarding his security”, the minister said.
The minister said that PAT workers worsened the security situation in the twin cities, making it possible for the militants to enter in their rallies and do any terrorist activity.
“We were trying to explain the situation to Dr. Tahir ul Qadri but few people were instigating him, thus deteriorating
the situation”, he said adding, this could help terrorists to achieve their targets.
Senator Pervaiz Rashid further said the people from the cabinet of Pervaiz Musharraf had been seen around the PAT chief which raised the doubts that Tahir ul Qadri came to give political life to allies of Musharraf.
He said Dr. Qadri had hijacked an international plane and made the passengers hostage, adding, the situation was more like hijacking the plane as most of the passengers on board were from his party.
The Minister said it was not for the first time that Tahir ul Qadri was creating such a situation in the country as he had a history of similar acts in his entire political career.
Dr Qadri was himself sitting in a first class in a cool and comfortable atmosphere whereas his followers were on roads
in a hot weather, the minister questioned.
He said that his agenda was not only to block the way to progress and prosperity but also wanted to derail the government’s efforts to overcome energy crisis and rid the country of darkness.
He said the government had demonstrated a great level of patience and tolerance in this entire situation. He said that Tahir ul Qadri should not indulge security institution into politics at the moment when army had launched
a grand operation in North Wazirastan.
He said the army was fighting to protect the sovereignty and future of the country and it was not advisable to divert
In the current scenario terrorists could take advantage of the situation as they had already given threats as a reaction
of the military operation in North Wazirastan, he added.
